Neighborhood Highlight: Schiller Park

Distance From The Barrett: 2 blocks

Down the street on Deshler Avenue sits Schiller Park, a favorite spot for residents of Merion and German Villages.

Throughout the year, you can find neighbors strolling through the park with one another and often accompanied by a four-legged friend. The park offers tree lined paths, a recreation center, basketball and tennis courts, and plenty of areas for picnicking.

During the summer months, Schiller Park hosts The Actors Theatre of Columbus' Summer Park Series. This group often performs some of Shakespeare's best work along with other notable playwrights. A picnic blanket acts as your ticket to Schiller's open-air amphitheater.

Around the holidays, paper luminaries line Schiller Park and guide you to businesses and restaurants that are open late for German Village's annual, “Village Lights”. You'll feel like you've gone back in time as the park and neighborhood are transformed with carolers and the spirit of the holidays.

Schiller Park connects Merion and German Village and is a fantastic amenity to both neighborhoods. When you live at The Barrett you'll be steps away from one of the best parks in the city.

Going Vertical!
If you've been by The Barrett lately you've noticed a lot has been happening. Foundations are poured, trenches were dug, and we've gone vertical with framing in both the school building and our three-story townhomes.

The most visible sign of improvement has been the initial framing of our first townhome building on Thurman Avenue. The framing for this building should take a few more weeks and then we will begin work on the remaining townhome buildings.

The townhomes will offer one and two-bedroom floorplans with attached garages, and designer finishes. They will have access to the same amenities and programs as residents living in the school building, but will enjoy a brand new apartment built from the ground up.

We hope to have our first townhomes ready for move-in late summer/early fall. If you're interested in reserving your new townhome shoot us an email and we'll get you more information.

Barrett Artifacts and Update
As summer comes to an end and we head into fall we thought this would be a great time to provide you with an update on Barrett. Demolition of some of the interior has begun, but don't worry we are saving the beautiful windows, detailed tin ceilings, old lockers, and as much of Barrett's history as possible!

Here are some pictures of what Barrett looks like now and some of the fun artifacts we've come across. Use your imagination to picture gorgeous apartments with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and large sun-drenched windows.

The outside of the school is striking. This main entrance will get restored and preserved. Greeting guests at this entrance will leave a lasting impression.

This picture doesn't do this space justice! On the third floor of the building sits what used to be the gym of South High School. The windows are massive and offer an abundance of natural light.

The original flooring of the basketball court is still on the third floor. We are doing everything we can to preserve and restore this flooring. We're looking forward to having this feature to offer to basketball fans and history buffs alike.

Homework assignments for English class were written on this whiteboard from the last days Barrett operated as a school. Underneath the whiteboards are the original chalk boards, which we will keep in some apartments for residents to use.

We'll leave you with this door that led to the teacher's restroom. We love finding these old artifacts, and picturing what the building was like when it operated as a school. Did you attend South High School or Barrett Middle School? If you did give us a shout out! We'd love to hear what the school was like when you roamed the halls!

Welcome to the Barrett Blog!
CASTO and Homeport are excited to work together on the re-development of our newest property, Barrett Urban Luxury Apartments & Single Family Homes.

As some of you know, Barrett was originally South High School and later Barrett Middle School. We took some interior shots of the building before renovation. Once completed, lockers will be reinstalled for resident's storage, chalkboards will be rehung, and our new "Library Lounge" will provide residents a place to gather with friends.

Be sure to keep an eye on this blog as well as our Facebook Page to stay up to date on the project. If you're interested in more information on Barrett, feel free to Contact Us.
